Adult ADHD Assessment & Management Clinic

Structured, evidence-based care focused on understanding you

ADHD can affect attention, organisation, planning, time management, relationships, work, study and everyday functioning. For many adults, these challenges have been present for a long time but may become more noticeable during periods of increased responsibility, stress or change.

Lifestyle Metabolic’s Adult ADHD Assessment & Management Clinic provides a structured pathway for assessment, diagnosis and ongoing care with Dr Michelle Warman, a GP with a special interest in adult ADHD.

The focus is not simply on obtaining a diagnosis. It is on understanding your history, current concerns, strengths, challenges and goals, and developing a practical management plan that supports your daily life.

What we offer

The clinic provides comprehensive assessment and management of adult ADHD and related neurodevelopmental concerns.

This may include:

  • Comprehensive assessment for adult ADHD

  • Assessment of executive functioning and other neurodevelopmental concerns

  • Diagnosis of ADHD where diagnostic criteria are met

  • Identification of co-existing medical or mental health concerns

  • An individualised management plan

  • Education and practical non-medication strategies

  • Medication initiation and optimisation where clinically appropriate

  • Ongoing review until your treatment is stable

  • Communication and shared care with your usual GP

A diagnosis of ADHD is not assumed or guaranteed. The assessment may identify ADHD, an additional or alternative explanation for your experiences, or the need for further specialist assessment.

Our goal is to understand you, not fit you into a diagnosis.

How the assessment works

Your initial assessment is completed across two face-to-face appointments, usually scheduled approximately four weeks apart.

1. Assessment 1

60 minutes

The first appointment focuses on getting to know you and understanding:

  • Your current concerns

  • Your childhood and broader life history

  • Education, work and relationships

  • Medical and mental health history

  • Your strengths, challenges and goals

  • Your current symptoms and everyday functioning

Dr Warman will complete an initial assessment and identify any additional information that may be helpful before your second appointment.

2. Assessment 2

60 minutes, approximately four weeks later

During the second appointment, Dr Warman will:

  • Review any additional information

  • Discuss the likely diagnosis or diagnoses

  • Explore your goals

  • Develop an individualised management plan

  • Discuss appropriate treatment options

  • Explain any recommended next steps or further assessment

ADHD may be the most appropriate diagnosis, or the assessment may identify another or additional explanation for your experiences.

3. Review and optimise

ADHD care usually requires review and adjustment over time.

Follow-up appointments allow Dr Warman to:

  • Monitor your progress

  • Review practical strategies

  • Adjust your management plan

  • Commence or optimise medication where appropriate

  • Review any side effects or concerns

  • Help you continue working towards your goals

At least three 30-minute review appointments are generally expected during the initial management period. Follow-up appointments may be available by telehealth when clinically appropriate.

4. Working together with your GP

Dr Warman’s role is designed to complement, rather than replace, the care provided by your usual GP.

Your usual GP remains your main doctor for your general health and other medical care.

With your consent, Dr Warman will:

  • Provide your GP with a detailed letter following the assessment

  • Share the diagnosis, management plan and medication recommendations

  • Communicate relevant findings after each assessment stage

  • Transition ongoing prescribing and care back to your usual GP once treatment is stable

  • Remain available for further review if new concerns arise or additional input is required

Your individual management plan

Your management plan will be developed with you and tailored to your needs, priorities and goals.

Depending on your assessment, it may include:

  • Understanding your neurotype

  • Practical strategies for everyday functioning

  • Psychological support

  • Lifestyle and wellbeing approaches

  • Coaching or occupational therapy where helpful

  • Medication where clinically appropriate

  • Recommendations for further assessment or specialist care

The aim is to create a plan that supports your goals and improves your everyday functioning.

Our approach

The clinic uses a holistic, patient-centred approach that considers:

  • Developmental history

  • Current symptoms and functional impact

  • Strengths, supports and goals

  • Physical and mental health

  • Life stages and transitions

  • Family and relationships

  • Work and education

  • Previous assessments and treatments

Care is evidence-based, trauma-informed, values-focused and guided by your individual goals.

Scope and limitations

The Adult ADHD Clinic can assess, diagnose and manage ADHD in adults.

Dr Warman can also identify autistic traits and discuss whether further assessment for Autism Spectrum Disorder may be appropriate.

Please be aware that:

  • The clinic does not provide formal Autism Spectrum Disorder assessments required for NDIS access or disability determination

  • Referral to an appropriate assessment service may be recommended

  • Complex psychiatric presentations or significant diagnostic uncertainty may require collaboration with a psychiatrist or another specialist

  • This clinic focuses on adult ADHD and related neurodevelopmental concerns and does not replace general medical care with your usual GP

Before your appointment

A formal referral is not required. However, a letter from your usual GP is strongly preferred because it supports safe, collaborative and comprehensive care.

Helpful information may include:

  • Relevant medical history

  • Your current medications

  • Previous mental health history

  • Specialist or psychology reports

  • School reports or developmental information, where available

  • Previous ADHD assessments

  • Relevant investigations

  • Any specific concerns or questions you would like addressed

The more relevant information we receive before your first appointment, the more effectively your appointment time can be used.
